Welcome to Disability Services at Mission College and West Valley College

Disability Services provides accommodations and support to students with disabilities to ensure equal access to college courses, programs, services, activities, and facilities.

At Mission College, disability services are provided through Disability Support Programs & Services (DSPS). At West Valley College, disability services are provided through the Disability and Educational Support Program (DESP).

Students only need to submit one application to request accommodations at Mission College, West Valley College, or both colleges. You do not need to submit a separate application for each college.

Disability Services Program Overview

DSPS and DESP provide disability-related services and reasonable accommodations for eligible students with disabilities attending Mission College and/or West Valley College. A variety of services and accommodations are available to support equitable access and full participation in college courses, programs, services, activities, and facilities.

Please follow the steps below to complete your application and provide disability verification. Once submitted, Disability Services staff at the primary campus you selected will review your application and contact you regarding next steps.

Student Responsibilities and Agreement

By submitting this application, I understand and agree to the following:

  • I will provide Disability Services at West Valley DESP or Mission College DSPS with the information, documentation, and/or forms (medical, educational, or other documentation) necessary to verify my disability and determine eligibility for services and accommodations.
  • I will meet with an Disability Services Counselor, Advisor, or Director, as appropriate, to discuss my disability-related needs and establish approved accommodations. I understand that I may need to meet with Disability Services periodically to review or update my accommodations.
  • I agree to use Disability Services and approved accommodations responsibly and in accordance with applicable program policies and procedures.
  • I understand that Disability Support Programs & Services (DSPS) at Mission College and the Disability and Educational Support Program (DESP) at West Valley College maintain policies and procedures related to the provision and responsible use of disability services.
  • I agree to comply with the applicable Student Code of Conduct and understand that I am responsible for meeting the requirements for participation in Disability Services.
  • I understand that information regarding program policies, including policies related to the suspension of services, will be made available to me and that I will be notified in writing before action is taken to suspend disability-related services.

The West Valley-Mission Community College District uses the information requested through this application for the purpose of determining eligibility for disability-related services and accommodations and providing authorized services through DSPS and DESP.

Personal information collected through this application will be maintained in accordance with applicable privacy and confidentiality requirements. Portions of this information may be reported or shared with the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office or other state or federal agencies as authorized or required by law. Disclosure of student information is governed by applicable confidentiality requirements, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), 20 U.S.C. § 1232g.

Pursuant to Section 7 of the Federal Privacy Act (Public Law 93-579; 5 U.S.C. § 552a note), providing a Social Security number is voluntary.

Information collected through this application is pursuant to applicable provisions of the California Education Code and California Code of Regulations, Title 5, governing disability services and programs within the California Community Colleges.
